5 Tips to be Ready for 2019
The beginning of a new year often brings renewed motivation to what we can achieve in the coming 12 months. We attack the first week of January with a sense of vigour and motivation. Unfortunately, this tends to diminish quite quickly as we sink back into our old habits. By mindfully preparing for the new year we can overcome this downturn and make 2019 a successful one. Here are some tips on how to make this possible:
1. Review 2018
Think about what went well and what didn't go well. What would you do differently and why did the things that worked work? Make sure you learn from your mistakes and leverage off your strengths to build yourself and your business into a better one moving forward.
With consideration of your 2018 review, what does your 2019 look like? List a goal that you want to achieve by the end of 2019 and some smaller goals to help your get there. Write these down and put them somewhere where you will see them often to help keep yourself accountable. As Confucius said "the man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones".
3. Tidy Up;
December can be the time of year when deadlines are tight and the focus on big jobs can mean your email and desk become messy. Start 2019 off on the right foot by being organised and tidy. Know that you are on top of your workflow and that there isn't something sitting in your inbox which you have missed that will come back to bite you.
4. Clear Your To-Do List
There is likely a sizeable list of small tasks that you have been putting off during the closing months of the year. Write these down and go about clearing them up. It is a nice feeling knowing that your to-do list is relatively clear going into the start of a new year, allowing you to focus on upcoming work rather than tasks you should have cleared some time ago.
5. Celebrate your Achievements
Being a small business owner has it's ups and downs. It's easy to reflect on what hasn't gone to plan but use the end of the year to celebrate your successes. Think back to all the great things you have achieved in the past 12 months and take the time to enjoy and celebrate them. This positive thinking is a great way to enter into the new year with the belief that you can achieve great things.
